3 Easy Tips to Stop Cravings

1.  Moderation

Here are some tips to help you stop cravings lose weight get healthy. Moderation in eating is the first and most important tip.  Allowing yourself a small serving of most of your favorite foods can help to control the cravings. Just remember a handful of m & m’s or peanuts have loads of fat and calories.  If you loose control and binge, don’t punish yourself, just get back on track. Starving yourself to make up for a slip in your diet will probably lead to more over eating.  It just seems to work that way.  So just stick with the plan.  For more advice on  eating in moderation see, my other article.

2.  Drink Plenty of Water

We all need to hydrate, and water is the best thing to drink. I know what you are thinking, “boring”.  Well, make sure the water is nice and cold or use ice.  You can also infuse your water with fruits like: lemons, oranges, strawberries, etc. Water infusion drinks are a healthy option. I don’t like most artificial sweeteners, and I haven’t tried Stevia, but if you like either, go for it. The CDC recommends that adult women should consume 2.7 liters of water from all beverages and food daily. It is recommended that men should consume 3.7 liters from all beverages and food daily.  Many of us go through the day slightly dehydrated and don’t recognize the signs: tired, hungry, eyes feel dry, dizzy or confused. Midway through my day, if my eyes start to feel dry and I am feeling sluggish, I drink 6 to 8 ounces of water, and I feel great.  For me it takes about 1/2 to feel the beneficial effects.

3.  Have Healthy Snacks on Hand, and Ready to Eat

What snacks you keep on hand depends on what eating plan you are following.

Celery, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, and most vegetables are compatible with most eating plans.  You can eat almost as much vegetables as you want.  A good tip is to pre-cut the vegetable and keep in serving sized bags.  This way you can just grab them and go.  I like the baby carrots, but for low carb diets they are a little high in sugar.  Almonds are a good choice, but remember about 23 almonds are a serving. The fat from almonds is good fat, but the fat and the calories should be taken into consideration in your total meal plan.  For low carb diets, a serving size of cheese cubes is good. Keep the cheese in serving size containers, this makes them grab and go ready. Some bars are okay,  just read the labels on any bars and adjust your total meal plan accordingly. Eating fresh and dried  fruit is healthy, but portion control is very important,  because fruit is high in sugar.

A tasty glass of infused water and a bag of cut up veggies, and a handful of almonds should stop your cravings.

Enjoy and Be Well.
