The Christmas Train

David Baldacci is a #1 New York Times Bestselling Author.  His novel, The Christmas Train, is a delightful, heartwarming romance, that twists and turns like a train running through the mountains.  The train isn’t as opulent and luxurious as back in the hay day of train travel, but the stories of the travelers are just as riveting. The characters are an eclectic group, complete with Roxanne and her boy’s gospel choir, Higgins a retired train engineer, and Father Paul Kelly. Along with a young Romeo and Juliet type couple, Steve and Julie.  Then there is Max a movie producer, and his scriptwriter, Eleanor.  Eleanor just happens to be the main character, Tom’s long lost love. And no train story is complete with a thief.  Each character adds depth and meaning to the story and leaves the reader wanting to know more about them.

Tom Langdon, was once a war correspondent, who is now writing fluff articles about gardening and home furnishings.  Tom is on the no-fly list, the result of an outburst at an airport, and needs to get from Washington DC to Los Angles to see his girlfriend, Lelia for Christmas.  He takes this opportunity to ride the train and write a story about his travels. When Tom meets Max, a movie producer,  they decide to team up and write a movie script that will include the elaborate real wedding of Steve and Julie. Max, being the nice guy he is,  has agreed to pay for it all.

Tom is all excited until he finds out he has to work with Max’s personal assistant, Eleanor. Yes, that Eleanor, Tom’s one true love.  At first, things are awkward between Tom and Ellie and just when things start to warm up between them, Tom’s girlfriend, Lelia, surprises him at the next stop. It becomes obvious that Tom and Lelia are headed for a break-up. Lelia becomes interested in Max’s personal assistant.

As fate would have it, there are two avalanches.  One in front of the train and one behind the train.  Everyone is cold and scared, so Tom and Ellie team up, like back in the old days when they were war correspondents together, and risk their lives to save everyone.  As we all know there is nothing better than risk and adventure to help bring a couple together, so Tom and Ellie fall back in love.
